Vanessa

Today’s face: Vanessa, inspired by Sktchy. This portrait brings together so much of what I’ve learned so far from the Sktchy subscription. Keeping it loose, going with strong shapes, hatching, layering colour, just trying to keep my pen (or Apple Pencil in this case) moving and thinking about the shapes and mood I’m trying to convey. And this was a very quick sketch for me in Procreate – so happy with how much I’ve learned.

Jonathan

Today’s face: Jonathan, inspired by Sktchy. I wasn’t feeling well yesterday and resisted drawing this, which was yesterday’s Sktchy subscription face, using illness as my excuse. I’m still unwell today but also know that when I’m resisting a daily tip, that’s when I should try it. Also turns out that simple white on black is just the kind of meditative drawing my crushing, vomiting migraine can cope with.

Danny

Today’s face: Danny, inspired by Sktchy. Yesterday I made a very rare trip to London to see the amazing Frida Kahlo exhibition Frida: Making Herself Up at the Victoria & Albert Museum (go see it if you possibly can, but book in advance online, you won’t be able to get tickets on the day, I think it’s booked out weeks ahead). It was incredible but spending a long day on my crutches has left me with painful swollen hands so I’m struggling to hold even my Apple Pencil. So I’ve only managed about 10 minutes of cross hatching. Maybe I’ll work more on this another day. Anyway I was using today Sktchy subscription daily tip from France van Stone about cross hatching, starting light and building up slowly into darks.
